ROSA PARKS SENIOR HOUSING & center, San Francisco
Built in 1962 and converted to senior housing in the 1980’s, Rosa Parks Senior Housing is part of the Rental Assistance Demonstration (RAD) program conversion. This program is a key part of the affordable housing program, privatizing public housing and allowing funds to be used for deferred maintenance and other improvements. This 12-story concrete building contains 203 residential units, common areas, and site management facilities. Work included renovations to common areas and residential units with accessibility upgrades, new kitchens and bathrooms, and finishes throughout. Exterior work included full waterproofing, new roofing, windows, and cladding repairs.
Additionally, with the Housing Authority on the same site, LDP renovated the Rosa Parks Senior Recreation Center Building. The project featured accessibility upgrades, interior finishes, site improvements, landscaping, and a special layout to accommodate new users. Sustainable design highlights include the installation of drought tolerant and native planting, double glazed windows, solar collectors, grey water systems, and vegetable gardens.
