ALICE FONG YU alternative school, SFUSD
LDP Architecture renovated and expanded an existing, historically significant elementary school with the addition of a new 15,000 sf middle school to create the first Chinese language immersion school in the country. This project involved designing three new buildings and renovating the existing school building.
The school district wanted to give the middle school a separate identity while preserving a strong link between the elementary and middle school populations. By combining educational spaces along a central "‘village street" the plan creates unique environments for the students while unifying the school community around common areas and themes.
