2300 Ellsworth, Berkeley
2300 Ellsworth is a 7-story building with 69 residential units and preserves an existing ground floor façade along Ellsworth and Bancroft Way. The site is located directly across from the UC Berkeley campus in a neighborhood with a mix of building types including churches, retail/commercial, hotels and multi-family residential apartment buildings.
The design utilizes the architectural language of base, middle, top to break down the building mass and emphasize the preserved facades. A building break along the Bancroft façade allows for a view into the central courtyard, with the main entry, access to the lobby and amenity spaces. Open walkways at the upper levels with perched study rooms overlooking the courtyard create layered outdoor circulation for the residents.
