1549 32nd STREET, OAKLAND

This new three-story, 70,700 sf building in West Oakland, bridges warehouse and residential neighborhoods on 32nd Street. The overall building form is the restrained shape of a warehouse, with recesses for the residential entry and decks, while 11 work/live units surround the perimeter with direct street access to create an lively street edge. Further activating the street, the building entry is designed to also serve as a gallery space and ground level parking is hidden from sight behind the interior courtyard. The residents, who live in one of the 36 residential units, get to enjoy the linear internal courtyard which is traversed by metal walkways.
